STEM Council identifies top 11 STEM programs for 2016-17 statewide Scale-Up

The STEM Council’s Executive Committee voted to add five new programs to the 2016-2017 STEM Scale-Up menu and renew six established programs from the 2015-2016 menu. Programs offered this year met a high bar of excellence and range from building robots and coding programs to conducting agricultural field experiences and learning about STEM careers. New additions to the 2016-2017 menu for educators introduce programs in middle school mathematics, secondary life science, environmental and conservation studies and biomedical science.


Verizon Grant Opportunity
A new $20,000 two-year grant opportunity, made possible by Verizon, will support the implementation of two PLTW Gateway units – Introduction to Computer Science 1 (ICS 1) and Introduction to Computer Science 2 (ICS 2) – at middle schools for the 2016-17 school year.

The 2016-2017 Verizon-PLTW Gateway: Introduction to Computer Science 1 & 2 (ICS 1&2) school grant opportunity officially opens today, Friday January 15th! The competition will close on March 31st, and award notifications will be sent no later than April 15th. As a reminder, any middle school that does not currently offer the ICS 1 & 2 units and has a free and reduced eligible student population of 70% or greater is eligible to apply for consideration.

Know excellent teachers? Nominate for Presidential Teaching Award; Deadline April 1
Do you know a K-6 grade teacher who provides excellent mathematics or science instruction to his or her students? Then please consider nominating him or her for one of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Anyone—researchers, parents or members of the general public—may nominate a K-6 grade teacher by completing the nomination form available on the PAEMST website ( To submit a nomination, you only need the teacher's contact information.

With the 2015-16 testing cycle underway, we want provide you with a few tips on how to have a successful test administration and experience for both teachers and students. You can also find this information in the PLTW 15-16 Assessment Program Guide and Administration Manual located in the Assessment module of the PLTW Professional Learning Community (PLC).

A Guide to the myPLTW Learning Management System (LMS)
PLTW has created an easily accessible guide with step-by-step instructions on commonly needed myPLTW LMS items, such as getting started with course customization and applying basic course preferences. The guide will be available starting Monday, Nov. 9, and is found within the myPLTW LMS from the Help corner dropdown menu.
